The Controversial Issue of RACE

Writing about race can be a controversial issue, so who has the right to write about it? Do you have to be a particular race to write or judge another race? If not, then is it okay to write the worst things about Hispanic people if you are...say...white? Does that make you racist? If not, then where do you draw the line?
It all kind of comes back to the story we read, Every Little Hurricane. In my class, Brittanya kind of brought up this topic. She asked if the man that wrote this story was Native American; if he wasn't, then he was using a lot of stereotypes of Native Americans that may or may not be true.

Let’s say that you were Native American and you read this story, but it was written by someone of a different race. You would definitely take some of the comments personal because you would feel that they were untrue stereotypes. You would be somewhatly upset that some random person can try to generalize your race when they don’t even know how it feels to be that race.

I don't really know where I was going with this post, but thats that!

I agree that race is a very touchy topic. All I can say is stick to the things that you know. Also, just because you may know one person of a certain race, doesn't mean that that is how everyone else that race is. I think that in our society people are very quick to judge and sometimes believe that they know everything. Like I said, people need to stick to what they know and not make assumptions about others different from them.

I think you're just trying to point out that in general, people don't think before they act. Especially when it's concerning others feelings. Something like that could really hurt someone and the writer wouldn't think one thing about it. From day one when we're born, we're almost automatically racist because of the fact that there are so many different colors, shapes, and sizes out there. We aren't taught to just accept them all and not even think about it, but we're taught what's right for "our kind". It's a strange world....

good post!

Race is very touchy subject but it doesn't hacve to be that touchy but people out there make it such a big deal when it isn't compared to what other problem are out there and we are wasting our time with rascism instead of the poverty, the unemployment, and or the companys that are moving over seas. its just a thought
